How do Turks receive the blessed month of Ramadan?
The Islamic people in all countries of the world are preparing for the advent of the blessed month of Ramadan, each according to its customs and traditions Fasting.
1- Prepare:
Ramadan has a special place in the hearts and minds of Turks who have inherited the celebration of it every year, and anticipate the night of sighting the crescent, anticipate the first Suhoor, and the first day in it, where the Turkish family gathers at one breakfast table in a family atmosphere that includes all its members, especially grandparents and grandmothers who represent the traditions and customs of Ramadan.
2- Social solidarity:
Charitable societies cooperate with benevolent people to organize the so-called “God’s Tables,” which are open tables attended by the poor, the needy, and those with limited income every year.
3- Al-Kharfa Al-Sharifah Mosque:
By entering the second half of Ramadan, visitors are allowed to enter the prophet mosque in Istanbul, which contains the Prophet’s cloth of Muhammad, peace be upon him, which Sultan Selim brought to Istanbul after his trip to the Islamic East in the year 516. In the past two years (Ramadan 2020 and 2021), the authorities did not allow visitors to enter the place due to the Corona epidemic.
4- Maghrib azan and iftar time:
At the time of Maghrib, the mosques ring with the call to prayer, and the Ramadan cannon fires some gunshots, announcing the entry of Iftar time, so that the fasting people, each according to the timing of his region, start eating after drinking water and eating dates, which are from the Sunnah of the Prophet. This custom in Ramadan is not limited to the Turks only, but all Muslims.
5- Tarawih:
Muslims pray every year, and after the evening call to prayer (the duration of the difference between the Maghrib and Isha azan is between 60 and 90 minutes), the Tarawih prayer, which is a collective prayer that is held in all mosques of the world. Many Turks have been keen to pray Tarawih since the first night of Ramadan, and the demand for it has increased in the last ten days, especially on Qadr Night.
6- Welcome and farewell:
Among the Turkish people’s habit of saying in the first half of Ramadan “Welcome, Ramadan” and saying in the second half of it “Farewell.” One of the things they are keen on this month is “Prayers of Praise,” They usually perform it in the last days of Ramadan or the night of Eid, as for Laylat al-Qadr. The Turks read prophetic praises and some religious songs.
