Tourists are turning their holiday compass this year towards Turkey

Turkey is poised to be the destination of choice for budget-conscious travelers for the new tourist season around the corner with the rising cost of living across Europe.

According to a study by the British company "Global Data" based in London, this came when the Russian-Ukrainian war raised the concern of workers in the tourism sector that the inflows of tourism between both sides may slow down this year.

A tourism analyst at "Criah Bradley" company says that Turkey's position in the market is likely to strengthen due to domestic consumer confidence. And that is a global consumer opinion survey in the third quarter of last year conducted by his company; he said that 58% of respondents viewed costs as a factor. Influencers and key in their bookings make it the main incentive for holiday bookings.

He added that this year many travelers would feel financial hardship due to the high cost of living and increased fuel and energy prices. Those who usually travel to Spain, Portugal, and France can divert their destination to Turkey as the prices are reasonable.

Research taken from the company's traveler spending patterns database shows that spending at the destination is relatively low in Turkey compared to the mentioned countries. However, the average stay for incoming tourists, 9.7 days, was the second-longest stay in Europe for 2021.

The figures showed that compared to the average domestic spending in popular leisure destinations in Europe, such as Spain and Portugal, travelers could save between $230 and $770 per trip if they traveled to Turkey instead.

The study concluded that travelers may now divert their destinations from the more expensive regions in Western Europe and exchange them with Turkey for a sunny beach vacation in tourist resorts such as Antalya, Dalaman, and Marmaris.
